Great Afternoon

I'm sticking to my plan of short runs all during the work week this week, so I hit the five mile loop from the school with a fellow teacher, Tim. I ran the first three with him, then he called it a day and I continued on for two more. Perfect running weather out with temps in the low 50s and partly cloudy skies. Ah, spring!

Forgot to mention it yesterday, so today is my second run in my new pair of Asics 2140s. I was long overdue for a new pair of shoes, and these feel great. They feel just like the 2130s in fact, which felt just like the 2120s. Hmmm.

Tomorrow will be a rest day. It's also the beginning of open-water fishing season, so me and the fly rod will be working one of my secret spots at a local river. I think fly fishing and long distance running are the two most Zen activities on earth. I'm surprised the Buddhist Monks don't combine these two on their paths to enlightenment. Who knows, maybe they do...

Ran 5.0 miles @ 8:19/mile pace.
AHR/MHR - N/A (forgot the strap)
Paved roads.
Slightly hilly.
Lower 50s, partly cloudy.
Shorts, short sleeved shirt.

Tomorrow Jamie will bend down by the stream and pick up a stone and weigh it in his hand. "This here," he will say playing with it, "is a stone, and will, after a certain time, perhaps turn into soil, and will turn from soil into a plant or animal or human being." In the past, Jamie would have said "This stone is just a stone, it is worthless" But Jamie will be enlightened because he knows the stone might be able to become also a human being and a spirit in the cycle of transformations. Jamie will grant it importance. Jamie will say "This stone is a stone, it is also animal, it is also god, it is also Buddha"

Nice shoes! I just got my first pair of ASICS two weeks ago and I'm loving them. They're constantly covered in mud (the way all shoes should be). :)

Also, you're name came up in my latest post. So... thanks for turning me onto SportTracks. :)

I did my first run in a pair of 2140s last night - an easy 10 miler. They are very much like the 2130s and 2120s. The last two models in that line that were really "different" were the 2110s (I hated them because the heel was too narrow for my orthoses) and the 2090s, which a lot of people hated and I really liked.

I'm glad you booked your airfare. How cheap was it? I had some freebies from when I took a bump on my flight to the race last year, so I'm flying for free this year - the whole family, actually.

I've got my first trail run of the year at the Blue Hills this Saturday. That should trash me pretty well. Are you running DRB?
