A Romp Through The Woods

Warmest day of the year yet, with highs in the mid-70s. Took advantage of it by hitting the woods as soon as I got home. Did a 13 mile-ish route along the powerline trails, with a detour that goes through a very awesome section of woods. Looks almost like old growth, with very large trees that are spaced out with hardly any undergrowth beneath. One would expect to see elves here, but alas, I did not.

I did spot a northern water snake sunning him/herself on the trail. Also saw a pileated woodpecker, a groundhog and a turkey. Leaves are also just now bursting with green and there aren't many menacing bugs out (though I did pick off a few ticks).

Great run. Legs felt a little heavy at first but that went away. Very decent pace for this terrain. However, about two miles of this route are along the road shoulders, so that helped lower the overall pace. Still, the splits looked decent for the technical sections. Good stuff.

Ran 12.9 miles @ 9:15/mile pace.
Mostly trails, about two miles of road shoulders.
Moderately hilly.
Mid to lower 70s, sunny.
Saucony Kinvara TR, shorts, short sleeved shirt, Nathan double water belt (diluted Gatorade).
