Another Good Day

Ran 5.0 miles @ 8:37/mile pace.
AHR = 150
Paved roads.
Slightly hilly.
Upper 40s, sunny, windy.

The doctor recommended running every other day, and I know it's very important to take it easy... but, throughout the day my knee felt not just fine, but there was no discomfort whatsoever, so I decided to run since I honestly felt I wasn't taking any big risks by doing so.

When I started running, I did feel it, but as more of a tightness, which I expected. It wasn't really an issue. I realize there'll be good days and not-so-good days though.

As for the run itself, I was with another runner who is working on getting his speed up, so the pace was good for me. Faster than yesterday, but still nothing crazy. My leg muscles definitely feel very tired from not being reconditioned yet. It's amazing how un-conditioned they've become. My legs feel like I've done back to back 15 milers. But, it's interesting to see my HR is still at the same level it was before the injury hiatus for that pace.

Tomorrow will be a rest day, or at the most a bike day (if not windy). But no running tomorrow, since I already violated the rule.

this sounds like good progress

Have you been able to do much walking to substitute the running? It's excellent to keep the motion\fluid going without the pounding and helps clear your thoughts.

I bet it is hard to resist running when you fell ok. I agree with Mark - biking or some other form of cross training that has low impact would be good to get some energy off. Take the time to recover well and I think that it will pay off handsomely.

Your making good progress ... but I'll pile-on with Mark and Bab, you want to take your recovery slow and make sure you get in eneough cross training to work those muscles secondary (but necessary) to running.

Yes, good advice and I realize that's true. Just kind of feel like a kid at Christmas. The road bike will be seeing quite a bit of action soon. Thankfully I live in an area that's great for riding.
