Update on Stuff

Not much to post lately, as I'm on the DL. Not a good time to be injured, as it is summer and I'm off work until the end of August. The side hobbies, like fly fishing, are getting more attention to keep the insanity at bay.

The ankle is still bugging me. The time off isn't appearing to help matters and I'm still suspicious of a stress fracture. I've been wrestling with the primary care doctor to get a referral to see my sports doctor... but long story short, they move very slowly. Did manage to have an x-ray and which apparently didn't show the stress fracture, but from what I understand x-rays are often inconclusive and a bonescan or MRI needs to be done to see for sure. So, waiting to hear back form the primary care doctor for the next step. Would be nice just to see the specialist first, but the health care plan that allows that costs way too much. Lovely.

I had a similar story where the X-ray didn't show anything on my foot, but the MRI showed it plain as day. Hope you can stay sane and work through this. I know it's probably tough not being able to do what you love.

Take it from me, Miss Injury herself...sometimes getting a diagnosis just isn't worth the hassle. Sress fracture, tendonitis, muscle strain, whatever, the treatment is the same ... rest, ice, compression, elevation, anti-infalmatories. You've got to get some training in for your sanity, have you tried bicycling or swimming?

I'll second Laurel's comment. Seems to always be the same Rx no matter the injury... I'm hoping it's not so bad as you're thinking it is, though!

Looking forward to runnin' into you and the other TM's at Vermont in T minus four days!!!

It can help your peace of mind to get a diagnosis, but I have to agree with Laurel...sometimes it just isn't worth it. After 1-1/2 years I never did get a definitive diagnosis. I'm finally starting to add back some running...very slowly...and I'm trying to run exclusively (for now) in my VFFs. Be careful with the barefoot or VFF running with an ankle injury. It really does stress your feet, ankles and calves more as you get accustomed to it. Take care!

Hang in there. You're right that it is a tough time to be on the shelf.
